relevant to that post on "literally" that's been going around
Yay, Kory Stamper has written a new post!

That was a very confusing post to read not because of the content, but because most of the discussion I've seen about this issue is on tumblr and consists entirely of people being self-righteous about their figurative uses of "literally" being completely validated. Although I hate figurative uses of "literally," I hate self-righteousness even more.

Yeah, I probably should have provided more context; the reason I think Kory Stamper's post is relevant is because it begins by telling everyone to calm down a bit. :) Mostly, though, I just like her blog!

It's a good post! I just had that weird internet phenomenon where everyone is complaining about people doing a certain thing but you see way more of the complaints than the thing they're complaining about!

Yeah. I was also thinking of the part of the post everyone has been replying to, the bit that's all, "way to ruin the English language, morons." Which is probably why I thought there was more of that going on, actually...I've seen that comment so many times lately! It made it seem much bigger. :)

Given that the post on "literally" sent me into nuclear meltdown (not literally), I'd probably better keep my mouth shut. :-)

That's why I like Kory Stamper's post, though: no one has to *like* the expanded use of "literally"; we could just maybe refrain from being jerks to other people about it! That's all.
