other reasons it's probably good that I live alone.
So. Today I watched "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances," and in the middle of that scene between Nancy and Rose (you know the one--"What future?"), I suddenly burst into tears. And kept doing it at random moments thereafter. The funny thing is, I thought I'd done quite well for myself, not crying at the whole "small, damp island" bit in the first episode. But no--it was just waiting to sneak up on me, that's all.

In my defense, I actually haven't seen these episodes in years. But it was still a bit odd. Oh, show.

I love Girl In the Fireplace, and the relationship between the "empty child" and his "big sister". Beautifully written. Didn't take to Jack right away, other than he's gorgeous, but loved Nine in it.

Yeah, Jack took a while to grow on me as well: I don't usually like the "charming rogue" type all that much anyway. Nancy is one of my favorite one-off characters ever. I adore her, and her bravery, and the way she teases Nine about his nose and his ears.

I know it's silly, but what usually gets people about John Barrowman is what initially turned me off. Yeah -- he's gorgeous. I don't know if you have seen the movie Penolope, but Matt Rippy, (Who portrays the real Jack in the Captain Jack Harkness episode) has a brief appearance as chauffeu and they give his teeth that artificial sparkle. I the first shot of John was so "perfect" I thought I saw one, although it's not there. I liked him better on Torchwood with that touch of darkness.

Well, that's okay--I don't usually respond to "typical" gorgeousness either. I tend to like Jack better on Doctor Who than on Torchwood because what I've seen of Torchwood is so inconsistent, but I like the idea of Torchwood Jack, just not the execution.
