TNT's Will
So…the TNT show Will (which has apparently been picked up for ten episodes) has released a trailer:

1. Well, that looks cheap and terrible.
2. Seriously, why are the costumes so awful?
3. I guess you can tell that this show is "modern and edgy" because that One Woman (™) in the trailer basically wears her hair like a current-day high-school student.
4. ahahahaha ha what, can you imagine any Elizabethan playwright ever complaining that "you can't just make up words"??? Oooooh Will, you rebel, you made up words! Just…like everyone else in your profession!

Seriously, what even.

I hesitate to even put this under the "costume drama" tag, but I guess I'll go ahead.

That does look awful.

Trashy awful, like it could work for me if it didn't take itself too seriously, but on the other hand, the One Woman Featured makes me disinclined to actually check this out. Like, is she there to provide pluck and encouragement, and also Lurv, from the sidelines? Will there be an inevitable love triangle? Will it be as excessively heterosexual as the trailer makes it out to be?

...In that trailer I saw one (1) woman who's likely to be a recurring character, and one (1) POC who very well could not be. Because, you know, Shakespeare's world was not only For Menz, but also Totally White.

Sadly, one person of color is more than you usually get in costume drama! But everything else looks like a disaster. It's not that you couldn't make a good version of such a show; it's just that this isn't it. :)

Alteratively Shakespeare the sitcom? BBC "Upstart Crow" http://youtu.be/MwnMhSRZk5A
Don't have TNT or BBC at the moment.

That certainly seems better than the TNT one!
