TARDIS feelings
I really have irrationally strong feelings of distaste for the new TARDIS interior. I think it's super ugly; it looks cold and unwelcoming. Moffat apparently did an interview where he said something about how he noticed that the TARDIS interiors had gotten progressively more fanciful, but it's not a magical place, it's a machine - at which my brain yelled SHUT UP IT IS TOO MAGIC, so, like I said - irrational. But it seems like a completely contradictory stance from a guy who also said that he writes the show like it's a fairy tale, which is also in-text, from "Amelia Pond" being "like a name in a fairy tale" to the fact that River points out that good wizards in stories always turn out to be the Doctor. Plus, sorry, the TARDIS is sentient (there's a whole episode about it in season 6, remember?), so it's not just a machine.

What I'm actually concerned about (aside from the fact that it's just so ugly) is that it looks to have been designed to go along with emo Doctor from the Christmas special trailer, and, ugh, I HATE that version of the Doctor. Emo Time Lords are the worst, man. I don't see why we have to go through this nonsense every time we change companions (dude, why do you even pretend like you're going to travel alone? It never works and it's never convincing; all it does is make you treat other people *coughMarthacough* like crap while you wallow). Honestly - it must be possible for the Doctor to be sad and to miss the people he's lost without always resorting to this maudlin "I'm always alone," "I'm disengaging from the entire universe" spiel. It's boring.

And okay, maybe Ten was kind of That Guy, always ready to, like, cry into a pillow and get rained on all the time...but Eleven is constantly saying things like "Every life is a pile of good things and bad things" or telling people that it's important to be happy because later on you might be sad, so it doesn't really make much sense for him to go all "stop the universe, I want off" because the Ponds left. There has to be a way for him to cry and be sad without going I SHALL NEVER LOVE AGAIN (OR AT LEAST NOT UNTIL THE NEXT EPISODE).

I hope the emo ends by the first commercial. We do have to honor his loss of Amy and Rory. Last time we saw him, he was so wrapped up in his loss, and he forgot his wife had just lost her parents. (How, I wonder, did this slip his mind, when the entire gist of that relationship was focused around the Ponds/Williams losing their baby--and River being that child and calling them Mom and Dad during the entire episode. But never mind.) However, why must the Doctor always kiss or be kissed in these first meetings? Yes Eight kissed Grace, but it was a happy kiss to celebrate the fact that he remembered his past—well some of it. (I’m human on my mother’s side). Also Eight was in America, so the Doctor impulsively kissing Grace was possibly a matter of the Doctor having cultural misunderstanding about how to thank Americans. And have you seen the posters? What's with all the focus on the Doctor being "Sexy". They’re cute but just funny; as someone at the BBC appears to think require visual slaps in the face to remind us that the Doctor has his Sexy back. I'm good with goofy and awkward, geeky guys. That can be very attractive. I have been attracted to that aspect of the Doctor since Doctor Number Two. I’m just going to sit back, hope for the best, and enjoy. If that fails, Moffat is on Twitter. We can ask him, how long is Eleven going to mope.

I absolutely agree that the show needs to honor the loss of Amy and Rory - and *I* will certainly miss them, as well as the Doctor! (I think it was definitely time for them to go, but I'll still miss them a lot.) I just wish they could find another way to go about it; the Doctor's repeated declarations that he's going to travel alone are completely unconvincing, and the general tenor of the show is very much on the side of caring about people, so we already know that this "no new companions" thing is never going to hold up, which (for me, anyway) makes it annoying to sit through.

I haven't seen the latest batch of posters, though. The thing about the Doctor is that he *is* always goofy and awkward - especially Eleven - so if they are portraying him as stereotypically sexy, it's completely against his actual personality!

Hope the link works. Here is the promotional poster: http://www.doctorwhospoilers.com/2012/?p=6896

It is the same one as in the BBC America commercial.

Aha - thanks for the link!

I think they've decided to make all the season 7 promo posters look like action movie posters: maybe that explains it?

I've only seen one picture of it. I don't like the new interior either, it seems cold and 50s scifi. Don't know why we need a new one, understand why 11 got a new one when 10 seemed to be trying to crash blow up the TARDIS. How can 11 say things like "What have you got for me this time?" or "You sexy thing you". It had personality. Now all he should say is "Boring, just boring".
Been avoiding the trailers for Christmas special. We need no Emo Mopey Doctor. Hopefully Oswin will turn him around. Still curious how they are going to work out this Oswin and the one on the Asylum of the Daleks. Hope he is not going to be depressed the whole series.

I read somewhere that they took the advantage of moving to a new studio to redesign the TARDIS interior rather than take the old one with them, but I don't know if that's true. Either way, I continue to disapprove. :)
