and speaking of Malvolio
David Tennant is playing Malvolio in a BBC Radio 3 production of Twelfth Night on April 22:

There are also some Globe actors on board: Naomi Frederick (Rosalind in the production of AYLI with Jack Laskey and Jamie Parker) is Viola, and Trystan Gravelle (Berowne in LLL) is Sebastian. They're also doing R&J the week after, with Trystan Gravelle as Romeo.

I am having something of a hard time imagining this, it has to be said! I'm so used to thinking of him in terms of Shakespeare characters who have some kind of playful, comic relationship with language: Benedick, Berowne, Romeo, Touchstone, Hamlet, Mercutio...

Currently the closest I've gotten to imagining him as Malvolio is through his role as the reverend in He Knew He Was Right...

Malvolio! What! I have all confidence in his acting ability, but wow, Malvolio is pretty far from the roles that he typically plays.

Yes, that's what I thought, too! He's usually the snarky guy in the corner, not the stick-in-the-mud the snarky guy makes fun of. But it's definitely an interesting choice because of that; I wonder how he'll be.

Oooo! That's going to be a must-hear.

I'm certainly looking forward to it!

Sounds interesting I can't picture him as Malvolio either or maybe should say hear him as.
They look like they are enjoying themselves in the photos.
Two Doctor Who actors as well Tennant and Don Gilet (Runaway Bride).

Edit: Make that three Doctor Who actors, Adam James was in Planet of the Dead.

Heh--Adam James also played Don Pedro in the recent Tennant/Tate Much Ado About Nothing! And I think one of those actors looks very much like Mr. Magpie from "Idiot's Lantern"... They do look like they're having a lot of fun!

Just in case you didn't see this, you can download the MP3 file from the podcast page for another 2 days http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/so3

I'm so excited about this production and all of the Shakespeare things happening this year, like the Maori production of Troilus and Cressida at The Globe, and the BBC radio show about objects from Shakespeare's time.

Thanks for the link!

It's definitely a good time for Shakespeare fans at the moment - I just wish that I could get to more of the things! Still, there's lots on the internet to be excited about, too.
