pretty English houses are my weakness.
I *did* have plans for today, but it's bucketing down out and PBS decided to show Howards End, which I'd never seen before--I wanted to read the novel first, and then never got around to the film once I had. Anyway, this is just to say that Sam West as Leonard Bast broke my heart: all that stiff, desperate restraint, wielded as though it can keep him from feeling or hoping for anything.

Huh, funnily enough I just watched that yesterday. I've got to say that in the film it makes much more sense that Helen would be attracted to Leonard than it ever does in the book.

I do remember feeling like it came as something of a surprise in the book, yes! But then, I found Helen fairly frustrating in the book, too.

I always like the rich color and wall papers.

I don't think I'd want William Morris wallpaper in my actual house (if I had one), but I always love looking at the patterns.
